Millions of families across the United States are grappling with the devastating effects of addiction. For parents in recovery, the challenges extend far beyond overcoming substance use—they often face systemic barriers like homelessness, lack of transportation, and minimal access to resources that could help them reunite with their children. These barriers prevent many parents from meeting court-mandated requirements, leaving them unable to regain custody despite their dedication to sobriety and recovery. I know this reality firsthand. When I was in recovery, living in a sober living house, and working hard to stay clean, I still lost custody of my children. Despite my progress, the system didn’t provide the resources I needed to secure housing, transportation, or the tools to demonstrate my ability to care for my kids. The lack of support was devastating—not just for me, but for my children, who longed to return to me. I realized then that countless other families face the same heart-wrenching situation, and that's why Second Chance Families Project exists. We bridge these gaps by providing essential resources and advocacy.
